I was recently visiting a friend who just got a brand new metal roof installed and he was very upset about it.

According to him only good thing about a metal roof is just the looks. It cost over 18000$ for a basic single home. Every time it rains it feels like living in a barn that has a tin metal sheeting on it. It makes so much noise as soon as the rain drops makes contact with the roof. Imagine a heavy rain fall or a hail storm.

That was one of the reasons why I only choose to sell shingles. Shingles are installed directly on the plywood and there is no space for echo or additional noise. Every year there is a new product in the market that we watch the same commercials about it over and over again on different channels. Have you seen any commercials about roof shingles or roofing products in Canada? All I see is car, trucks, food and health related products being advertised over and over.

I have seen many lawn signs saying that your last roof and all that but is it really your last roof? Metal roof manufacturers really think that  homeowners will really spend three times more to get their roof replaced but hey are wrong. If the warranty on roof shingles and metal roof is the same why should anyone spend 15000$ if they only need to spend 5000$. Some homeowners have too much money piled under their pillows and don’t know what to do with. I personally think that metal roofs in Canada is not a good choice and if you ask why? Because there is a +40 to -40 temperature difference between summer and winter months which is not a condition that metal can survive due to expanding and shrinking factor. Discoloration and fading color is another problem with metal roofs. It may cost up to thousands of dollars if you were to re-finish it again but it will never be the same. Majority of the homeowners choose shingles because it is affordable, repairs are easy and has zero chance of getting hit by a lightning. Your house getting hit by a lightning is has a very small percentage but if it does i don’t know what the aftermath would be.

Handyman Express or Pro’s Who Do You Choose For Your Renovations???

These days we all try to save as much money as possible from renovations to basic maintenance that is needed for our home or auto. The problem is we only realize things should have been done properly at the beginning to put an end to it there and then.

If you hire a jack of all trades to do your renovations for couple of thousand dollars cheaper than an actual company or companies who specializes in that type of work you might save way more than you think. For example: an electrical fire is caused by the faulty connections due to handyman express bs and now there are no tags with the certification numbers and insurance will not pay for the damages. Was it worth it? I don’t think so. Another example: handyman express brushed tar all around the roof where they though the original leak was but next rain fall leak got worst and cost thousands more to repair it. Plywood had to be changed, insulation had to be replaces and new ceiling with a paint job was a must to get things back into normal. Handyman express is a great service at a low-cost to certain things but not for anything that requires experience, skill and certification.

It may be a good idea to save now but make sure it wont empty your pockets later for the same problem. Always hire a professional for whatever needs to be done in and around the house. Companies that are experienced and fully insured are less likely to generate more problems in the future plus they pay tone of money for insurance coverage’s to protect themselves and you if things go south.

Should You Pay 250$ For A Roofing Contractor To Show Up At Your House???

Since the last wind storm i had customers complain about other roofing companies who wants to charge 250$ for sending a service truck to an address and to perform simple roof repairs at homeowners cost. So 250$ for the service call plus material and labor???

Would you agree to pay a roofing company 450$ to remove 3 taps and install 3 new taps of shingles to your roof? I don’t know if you are second generation rich person but paying 450$ for that is sounds like robbery to me.
