Metal roofs can cost up to 3 times when compared to shingles but can everyone afford it? If both roofing systems have the same life span, why pay triple. Once the metal starts to lose its color, it will cost you a lot to sand it down or paint it again but it will never be the same. Baked paint and brushed or sprayed paint does not have the same quality. Wooden roof shingles are a joke too.

Most common installation areas of a house would be at the entrance of the house.

I was recently visiting a friend who just got a brand new metal roof installed and he was very upset about it.

According to him only good thing about a metal roof is just the looks. It cost over 18000$ for a basic single home. Every time it rains it feels like living in a barn that has a tin metal sheeting on it. It makes so much noise as soon as the rain drops makes contact with the roof. Every year there is a new product in the market that we watch the same commercials about it over and over again on different channels. Have you seen any commercials about roof shingles or roofing products in Canada? All I see is car, trucks, food and health related products being advertised over and over.

I have seen many lawn signs saying that your last roof and all that but is it really your last roof? Metal roof manufacturers really think that  homeowners will really spend three times more to get their roof replaced but hey are wrong. Handyman Express or Pro’s Who Do You Choose For Your Renovations???

These days we all try to save as much money as possible from renovations to basic maintenance that is needed for our home or auto. The problem is we only realize things should have been done properly at the beginning to put an end to it there and then.

If you hire a jack of all trades to do your renovations for couple of thousand dollars cheaper than an actual company or companies who specializes in that type of work you might save way more than you think. For example: an electrical fire is caused by the faulty connections due to handyman express bs and now there are no tags with the certification numbers and insurance will not pay for the damages. Was it worth it? I don’t think so. Since the last wind storm i had customers complain about other roofing companies who wants to charge 250$ for sending a service truck to an address and to perform simple roof repairs at homeowners cost. So 250$ for the service call plus material and labor???

Would you agree to pay a roofing company 450$ to remove 3 taps and install 3 new taps of shingles to your roof? I don’t know if you are second generation rich person but paying 450$ for that is sounds like robbery to me. Winter in Ottawa Ontario can be different every year. Because there is always freezing rain in the forecast for the capital, there will be layers of snow and ice build up on your roof. It can cause structural damage because of the weight.

There are many reasons for ice damming other than freezing rain like poor ventilation, heat loss, blocked soffit or even having a low-pitched roof. It the slope of the roof is 6/12 or less, ice and water shield must be installed under neat and both sides of  the valleys. On a 4/12 pitched roof i would recommend 9 feet of ice and water shield. If your house is facing north and south than your north side is more at risk of water damage before the south side. If you ask why; south-facing side of the house always kept warm by the sun and snow will always melt before. But the north side of the house does not see as much sun and melting occurs gradually not like the south side. Melting snow will pool up and back right under the shingles. Removing all the snow and ice from the north side of your house is a must unless there is enough ice and water shield and felt is installed.

Eventually heavy snow that’s parked on your roof will bow the plywood and you can see the rows of trusses from the street. It doesn’t matter if your house or your roof is new. Your roof is not design to haul weight for months, its design to allow rain or snow to run down and keep your house dry.
