There is a big difference estimating a roof by looking at it from the street or actually getting up on the roof and measuring the sq footage and the details. Getting up on the roof and measuring is called “a quote”. A quote is more preferred for you because it is accurate measurements instead of eye balling. Eye balling is an estimate where the price may change without a notice because contractor sold himself short and needs to hustle the customer.

Metal roofs can cost up to 3 times when compared to shingles but can everyone afford it? If both roofing systems have the same life span, why pay triple. Once the metal starts to lose its color, it will cost you a lot to sand it down or paint it again but it will never be the same. Baked paint and brushed or sprayed paint does not have the same quality. Wooden roof shingles are a joke too.

One of the reasons why I only choose to sell shingles is that, repairs are easy and cost-effective, any house can be remodeled without a big budget. Don’t spend a ton of money on something which requires high maintenance. Roof shingles have been in the market for decades and they are the most affordable roofing systems out there. Out here in Ottawa the weather is very unpredictable and it can be an 😯 Degrees Celsius from summer to winter. Metal is known to expand and shrink depending on the weather so does the roof shingles. Metal is known to attract ice dams but shingles don’t. Using metal for the exterior walls is a great idea but for the roof shingles are a must.
Many occasions roof leaks are caused by the metal valleys that has no proper underlayment in place to act as a second layer of protection. It is more likely to have an ice dam form where the metal valleys are because they are designed to collect all the water to guide it to a specific direction. Most common installation areas of a house would be at the entrance of the house.
Request up to 3 roofing quotes and estimates and compare when its time to replacing or repairing your roof. Cheaper does not necessarily mean it will be quality work.

I was recently visiting a friend who just got a brand new metal roof installed and he was very upset about it.
According to him only good thing about a metal roof is just the looks. It cost over 18000$ for a basic single home. Every time it rains it feels like living in a barn that has a tin metal sheeting on it. It makes so much noise as soon as the rain drops makes contact with the roof. Imagine a heavy rain fall or a hail storm.
That was one of the reasons why I only choose to sell shingles. Shingles are installed directly on the plywood and there is no space for echo or additional noise. Don’t spend a ton of money on something which requires high maintenance. Roof shingles have been in the market for decades and they are the most affordable roofing systems out there.

Handyman Express or Pro’s Who Do You Choose For Your Renovations???

These days we all try to save as much money as possible from renovations to basic maintenance that is needed for our home or auto. The problem is we only realize things should have been done properly at the beginning to put an end to it there and then.
If you hire a jack of all trades to do your renovations for couple of thousand dollars cheaper than an actual company or companies who specializes in that type of work you might save way more than you think. For example: an electrical fire is caused by the faulty connections due to handyman express bs and now there are no tags with the certification numbers and insurance will not pay for the damages. Was it worth it? I don’t think so. It may be a good idea to save now but make sure it wont empty your pockets later for the same problem. Always hire a professional for whatever needs to be done in and around the house. Companies that are experienced and fully insured are less likely to generate more problems in the future plus they pay tone of money for insurance coverage’s to protect themselves and you if things go south.
A fully insured roofing company will have liability and wsib coverage for employees and the homeowners. Handyman express might have a life insurance package. Do you see the difference here?
